The IDEA-4S was originally developed for GMN USA spindles; however, recently our engineers have expanded the application to function on all spindles and motors, regardless of the manufacturer.

Captures an Entire Spindle History

The digitized information is available for immediate review on your shop floor. The information captured includes:

  • Vibration issues 
  • Storage temperature
  • Coolant temperature
  • Speed history
  • Tool clamping condition
  • Axial displacement

IDEA-4S also creates a fingerprint of the spindle, including a history of how the spindle has been used and the type plate. Examples include: 

  • Current status (in use, current application, or location in inventory)

THE IO-LINK INTERFACE: COMMUNICATION USING FUTURE TECHNOLOGY

The IDEA-4S electronics is an IO-Link interface for spindle monitoring that transmits sensor values ​​as process data and additional acyclic information such as diagnostic data or configuration parameters. The operation of the device requires an IO-Link master. An IODD file (IODD = IO-Link Device Description) is required to configure the electronics. The IO-Link interface is fully described in the IODD. GMN can provide the IODD upon request. IDEA-4S uses COM3 speed according to the latest IO-Link specification 1.1.3. By using the IO-Link interface, it is possible to implement IDEA-4S in a modern IIoT infrastructure.

Measure and Analyze Data on an IO-Link Interface

The IDEA-4S uses an IO-link electronic interface that transmits sensor values ​​as process data and additional acyclic information such as diagnostic data or configuration parameters. Monitored areas include include:

  • 5 analog inputs for PT 100 temperature sensors
  • 3 digital inputs for position sensors
  • 1 analog input for a NAMUR speed sensor
  • 1 internal 3-axis vibration sensor

Each sensor provides statistical values, including minimum and maximum values, alarm and fault status.

IO-link systems operate independently of field bus systems, enabling its application for all controls. Modern IO-link masters allow seamless connections to IIoT infrastructures without straining the controller’s performance. This IO-link configuration also facilitates simple point-to-point communication.
